GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL
EDWARDSVILLE 21, BELLEVILLE EAST 20 (OT): Kennedy Gieseking caught a three-yard pass in the end zone for the winning point in overtime as Edwardsville defeated Belleville East at Charlie Woodford Field. It was the first-ever overtime game in the Tigers' short history.
Wallace also threw for two touchdowns on the night, from 12 yards to Serena Shapiro, and one yard to Sophie Antonini. Antonini also scored a rushing touchdown.
Edwardsville plays at 12:30 on Saturday at Belleville West against Rockford Jefferson.
BOYS SOCCER
TRIAD 4, BELLEVILLE WEST 2: Parker Benson, Jacob Buchtel, Caden Lutz, and Colby Wheat all scored as Triad won the Southwestern Conference game over West at Bob Goalby Field.
Damien Jordan made two saves for the Knights, while Auggie Benson had one save in goal, as Triad went to 4-0-0, while the Maroons fell to 3-4-0.
WATERLOO 2, FATHER MCGIVNEY CATHOLIC 1: Will Rakers' first half strike was cancelled out by Waterloo, while the Bulldogs scored again in the second half to win at home.
Patrick Gierer had five saves in goal for the Griffins, who are now 1-2-0, while Waterloo maintains its 100 percent record at 5-0-0.
In other results from Thursday, Highland won over Salem 6-1, Jacksonville took a 3-0 win over Civic Memorial, Jersey nipped Piasa Southwestern 2-1, and Columbia won over Mascoutah 4-2.
GIRLS FIELD HOCKEY
In a game played Thursday evening at Tiger Stadium, Lindbergh of Sunset Hills, Mo, in south St. Louis County won over Edwardsville 3-2.
FOOTBALL
In a Thursday night week three game in the South Central Conference, Piasa Southwestern shut out Virden North Mac 40-0.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
In results from Thursday's girls volleyball matches, Edwardsville came from behind to take a three-set thriller from Belleville West 24-26, 27-25, 26-24, Mascoutah won at Granite City 25-10, 25-7, Marquette Catholic won over Piasa Southwestern 25-15, 25-22, it was Maryville Christian taking a three-set Gateway Metro Conference win over Belleville Althoff Catholic 25-20, 10-25, 25-17. Trenton Wesclin got past Waterloo Gibault Catholic 25-13, 18-25, 25-14, Columbia stopped Civic Memorial 25-20, 25-20, and Red Bud defeated East Alton-Wood River 25-11, 25-13.
JERSEY ATHLETICS ROUNDUP
BOYS GOLF WINS
JCHS Boys Golf hosted Southwestern and swept the Birds at both levels. The Varsity Panthers picked up the win with a team score of 157-169, led by medalist Michael Roberts, who fired an impressive 35. Adam Robinson followed with a 38, Nolan Goetten shot 41, Caden Darr carded a 43, and Isaac Hackethal and Mason Burney each finished with a 44. The JV Panthers also earned a dominant victory, winning 197-239. Colby Goetten led the way with a 45, followed by Owen Daley with a 46, Kellan Johnson with a 51, Noah Burns with a 55, and Ethan Talley with a 58. Great job, Panthers!
TENNIS, BASEBALL POST WINS
JCHS Tennis hosted Bunker Hill and Staunton in a clean sweep, 9-0.
JCMS Baseball traveled to Jacksonville and won 6-1. The Panthers were led at the plate by Alex Morgan and Kellen Woolsey collecting two hits each along with Grayson Smith who delivered a bases loaded triple. On the mound Cayden Souder pitched a complete game yielding only 3 hits while striking out 5. The Panthers record is now 8-2 on the season.
CROSS COUNTRY TEAM TURNS IN POWERFUL PERFORMANCE
JCHS Cross Country traveled to Southwestern for the Twilight Run and took 1st in both divisions. In the Boys Race, Kaden Strohbeck led the way with a 3rd-place finish in 17:10, followed by Will Green in 6th at 17:48, Zane Grummel in 8th at 18:12, Luca Derrick in 9th at 18:29, and Dylan Green in 10th at 18:42. Kyle Darr finished 15th in 21:42, Jordan Gallup 20th in 23:57, Mason Warren 21st in 24:30, and Huck Peters 23rd in 25:42. In the Girls Race, Brenley Kelly continued her strong season with a 1st-place finish in 19:37, while Amelia Jumper finished 2nd in 21:16. Courtney Breden placed 4th in 24:09, Jerra Vanausdoll 5th in 24:20, Trinity Cummines 13th in 31:32, Rory Speidel 14th in 31:36, Melinda Robles 15th in 31:37, and Allison Haarmann 18th in 36:37.
