When this community elected me as your State Representative in 2020, I could not have imagined the journey this job would take me on over the past six years. I have met so many incredible people throughout the Metro East, worked tirelessly on legislation that makes a real difference here at home, and ensured that the voices of our region are no longer overlooked in Springfield.
Serving as a Republican in a Democratic supermajority legislature comes with challenges, but I have always been willing to put partisan differences aside and work for the good of the people of Illinois. That commitment is why I was recently recognized by a nonpartisan think tank as one of the most effective legislators in Springfield. Rather than engage in petty politics, I roll up my sleeves and work to pass legislation that delivers results for the constituents I serve.
Some of the legislation I am most proud of includes strengthening protections for children against predators, enhancing public safety and supporting our first responders, lowering prescription drug costs, improving safety for road workers, and cutting red tape for local governments.
When I first ran for office in 2020, I made several promises to the people of the Metro East, and I have worked hard to keep them. I promised to lead with honesty and accountability, and that commitment has guided my time in office. I promised not to participate in the taxpayer-funded legislative pension system, and I have kept that promise. I promised to oppose tax increases, and I have voted against every tax increase that has come before me. I also promised to speak out against policies that hurt the families I represent, and I have continued to do so throughout my time in Springfield. My campaign has been focused on that record and our shared vision for the community, rather than mudslinging or petty political attacks.
Some of the most impactful work I do happens right here in my district office. Over the years, thousands of constituents have turned to my office for help navigating state government, obtaining state licenses, connecting with local resources, and accessing the benefits they deserve. I have also used my office’s resources to host free community events that help protect seniors from fraud, provide document shredding services, connect job seekers with new opportunities, and help residents recover money owed to them by the state. I believe public service is about showing up for our community, and I have worked hard to put that belief into action.
Serving as your voice in the State House has been a tremendous honor, but I am not finished fighting for the Metro East. We still need meaningful property tax relief, more good-paying jobs in our region, policies that make our streets safer, and greater accountability to root out corruption in state government.
I would be humbled by the opportunity to return to Springfield and continue working on your behalf. Thank you for the trust you have placed in me, and I hope to earn your support once again.
Sincerely,
Amy Elik, your State Representative
