These facilities, previously under the name Bria, are now overseen by Nexus and focus on providing quality nursing care in Alton, Belleville, Cahokia, Columbia, Godfrey, Mascoutah and Wood River. Eric Iverson with Nexus noted that their goal is to help patients and families thrive.
“We really want to engage with the community. For us, that is the most important thing,” he said. “In healthcare, there’s a lot of sort of amalgamation of these large healthcare groups. You don’t get to see the faces. We want to truly be a part of the community and continue to earn the community’s trust every day. We’re happy to be here.”
Iverson noted that the company focuses on patient care and outcomes. They offer “a mix of medical care, hospital-grade care, and hospitality” with both long-term and short-term care options.
Nexus recently opened a secure dementia care unit in Alton as well as on-site dialysis in Alton and Belleville. Iverson noted it’s important to meet the needs of patients and provide services that the community is lacking.
“We want to make sure that our patients’ needs and wants and our families’ needs and wants are our highest priority,” he explained. “How do we meet as many patients as we can? How do we fill the needs that aren’t being met in our community and in our hospitals? And once we kind of set that baseline, we were able to really say, ‘Alright, we’re going to take really good care of our patients.’”
Iverson pointed out that Nexus is one of the region's largest employers. They are currently hiring. He added that the company is focused on creating a positive culture for their team and their patients both, which he believes goes hand in hand.
“If our staff is happy, we treat them fairly and we treat them well and we create a culture about caring for each other, that’s going to filter down to our patients and our families,” he said. “We want to be as innovative as possible, but at the end of the day, we are people taking care of people. For us, that’s ultimately what matters the most at Nexus Health.”
He acknowledged that Nexus is “a new-ish name in town” and might need “to earn the trust of the community.” But he believes their commitment to the people they serve will speak for itself. He said they are pushing to help more people and give back to the community every day.
The team at Nexus Health is eager to provide skilled nursing care to families across the Riverbend region. They hope they can assist people through their long-term and short-term care options.
“At the heart of it, empathy is really key,” Iverson added. “When we’re meeting a potential patient or a family, it could be one of the worst days of their lives. Our job is to make them feel as comfortable as we can. In an uncomfortable situation, we want to make them feel comfortable. And if our staff is comfortable and our staff feels appreciated, that’s really going to filter down to the patient level and the patient care side of things.”
