O'FALLON, IL. - HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, Illinois, said it completed construction on a new outpatient registration area that opened July 11, 2026, marking the first finished component of the hospital’s ongoing $116 million campus expansion project.
The new outpatient registration area is located just inside the outpatient entrance, where patients check in for appointments and walk-in testing. Hospital officials said the relocation is intended to increase patient access and efficiency of care on the first floor while adding more patient privacy. Two self-check-in kiosks are also available for patients.

“This new registration space represents the first area completed in our campus transformation, and we couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead,” said Chris Klay, president and CEO of HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and HSHS Southern Illinois Market. “We’re proud of the work that’s being done at our hospital to expand access and meet the healthcare needs of our area. We are grateful for the patients and support of our community during this time of growth and look forward to sharing many more milestones to come.”
In addition to the registration move, Surgical Home and lab draw stations also relocated to the newly constructed area.
Hospital officials said construction on the previous registration area will begin in the coming weeks. That space will be transformed into the entryway of the hospital’s new cafeteria on the first floor.
Work is also continuing across the rest of the campus. On the hospital’s fifth floor, where the cafeteria and kitchen were previously located, construction is underway to add 32 inpatient rooms. The hospital is also expanding its emergency department with eight new treatment rooms and an expanded waiting area.
On the northeast side of the campus, construction is continuing on a new medical office building and outpatient surgical center. Hospital officials said the facility will house four operating suites and two procedure rooms for minor outpatient, same-day surgeries and procedures. The building will also include clinical space for medical specialties and physician offices, along with expanded diagnostic services including X-ray, CT scan, open MRI, bone density scan and mammography.
“It’s exciting to see these projects come to life as we continue investing in the future of our hospital and the communities we serve,” said Michael Janis, chief operating officer of HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. “These additions will help us continue to meet the growing needs of our patients and ensure access to high-quality care close to home.”
