Roxana's Max Autrrey.

ROXANA - Roxana head baseball coach Jerry Wheaton said Max Autery, a four-year starter for the Shells, will be difficult to replace because of his leadership at catcher and his ability to manage the game, after a season in which Autery earned All-Cahokia Conference Mississippi Division honors and prepared to continue his baseball career at Quincy University.

Autery had a .398 batting average this past season with 39 hits and 40 RBI, 12 doubles, five triples and four home runs. He hit .325 as a junior.

Wheaton said Autery’s impact on the program extended over four seasons and included success beyond baseball.

“He is another one who had tremendous success on the football field as well,” Wheaton said.

Autery is a Midwest Members Male Athlete of the Month for the Shells.

Wheaton described Autery as a key presence behind the plate for Roxana.

“Max is the leader behind the plate,” Wheaton said. “He is just going to be really hard to replace because of his ability to manage a game and hold runners at bay. Max always worked so hard to perfect his craft as a catcher.”

Autery was named an All-Cahokia Conference Mississippi Division player this past season for the Shells. Coach Wheaton said Autery is going to Quincy University this upcoming season to play baseball.
