
NORMAL - Anna Maxim's brace (two goals), and Genny Burroughs' seven saves in goal to record the clean sheet were enough to send Edwardsville through to the IHSA Class 3A girls soccer quarterfinals, as the Tigers won over highly-ranked Peoria Notre Dame Catholic 2-0 in the Normal Community sectional final Friday evening in Normal.

The win sends Edwardsville into the super-sectional contest at Bloomington High Monday evening against New Lenox Lincoln-Way West, with a shot to go to the last four at the state finals next weekend.
Maxim scored once in each half, assisted by Thea Dimitroff and Gabby Thompson respectively, to help the Tigers go through to the super-sectional. Burroughs made her seven saves to record her fourth consecutive clean sheet of the postseason, sharing the first one with Emma Birkenmeyer in the regional semifinal.
The Irish end their season at 23-1-2, while Edwardsville goes to 15-3-2, and meets New Lenox Lincoln-Way West, who won the Tinley Park Andrew sectional over Orland Park Carl Sandburg 2-0, Monday in a 6 p.m. kickoff, with the winner going to state finals at North Central College in Naperville, meeting either Hinsdale Central or Winnetka New Trier in the first semifinal match June 5 at 5:30 p.m. The third-place game takes place June 6 at 11:30 a.m., and the state final kicks off at 7 p.m.
