PONTOON BEACH, Ill. — A 34-year-old man died after being shot multiple times early Saturday in the 4000 block of Pontoon Road, and the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis has been asked to assist in the investigation, authorities said.

Pontoon Beach police responded at about 3:11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2026, to a report of shots fired, according to the information released. Officers determined that the man had been shot multiple times.

The victim was taken to a St. Louis-area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Pontoon Beach Police Department requested assistance from the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis. Sgt. Brent Rombach of the Wood River Police Department is serving as deputy commander for the activation.

Investigators are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Major Case Squad command post at 618-931-5100 ext. 0 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-371-TIPS (8477).
