“HOME funds come from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the creation of affordable housing units,” Director of Community Development Trudy Bodenbach said.

The Home Program is a grant administered by local governments designed to create affordable housing for low income households. The available HOME funding is comprised of the 2017 funding year (Oct. 1, 2017 to Sept. 30, 2018) allocation.

“There is an application process for all those who are interested in applying,” Bodenbach said. “After requests are received, eligibility will be determined by MCCD and to see if the proposed activity is consistent with the Consolidated Plan.

Proposals with rental housing utilizing a mixed income rental structure can be assisted; however, all HOME-assisted units must meet the HOME requirements.

“We are looking forward to receiving project proposals from agencies who will be serving our high-priority, low-income residents,” Bodenbach said. ““This can include the elderly, homeless, low-income families and others.”

Bodenbach said tenant-based rental assistance applications will not be accepted during the initial funding process.

Applications can be found on the Madison County Community Development website. http://www.co.madison.il.us/departments/community_development/index.php
