In a factual basis submitted in support of detention, prosecutors said officers responded Sept. 7 to a delayed report of a disturbance at 313 Big Arch Road in Alton. A resident reported a disturbance involving neighboring units in which McCrady was captured on surveillance video displaying a firearm, according to the filing.

The aggravated battery and mob action charges stem from the Sept. 14 incident involving a juvenile.

According to the detention filing, officers responded to a battery report, and a juvenile told them McCrady and another male approached him and repeatedly struck him. The juvenile reported that McCrady brandished a firearm and struck him multiple times in the head and neck.

The aggravated battery charge alleges McCrady struck the juvenile about the head and body with a firearm, causing pain. The mob action count alleges McCrady acted with another person to strike the juvenile repeatedly, using force or violence without legal authority and disturbing the public peace.

On Oct. 12, officers located McCrady at the Belle Meadow apartments in the 3200 block of Belle Street in Alton and moved to arrest him, prosecutors said in the detention filing. He allegedly fled on foot and discarded a firearm in the grass before pursuing officers took him into custody.

The resisting charge alleges McCrady fled from Detective Gattuso while the detective was attempting to arrest him. It also alleges McCrady knew Gattuso was a peace officer performing official duties.

According to the detention filing, McCrady admitted during an interview that he was armed during the Sept. 7 and Sept. 14 altercations and fled with a firearm on Oct. 12. Prosecutors said the factual basis was drawn from information provided by law enforcement and would be detailed further at a detention hearing. The defendant is a convicted felon, currently on probation.

The charges are accusations, and McCrady is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
