JERSEY - Students in Andrea Lamer and Cara Rojas’ Spanish classes at Jersey Community High School traveled last week to Soulard Park in St. Louis for the Greater St. Louis Hispanic Festival, where they celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by practicing Spanish and participating in cultural activities.
The visit took place during the 30th annual festival, held Sept. 18-20, 2026, at Soulard Park, next to the Soulard Farmers Market at 7th Street and Lafayette Avenue in St. Louis. The festival’s theme was “Todos Somos Uno – We Are All One.”
During the trip, students participated in a scavenger hunt around the festival that allowed them to practice their Spanish-speaking skills. They also tried several foods from Hispanic culture and learned multiple dances, including salsa, mambo and cumbia.
The festival was free and family-friendly. It featured live music, folkloric and salsa dancers, Latin American food vendors, arts, crafts and cultural exhibits. Foods available included empanadas, tacos and aguas frescas.
Festival hours were 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, and Saturday, Sept. 19, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20.
Organizers provided shaded tents, cooling stations, and misting fans during a late-summer heat wave.
