“He handled countless calls for service, investigated scores of cases, and helped / rendered aid to an untold amount of people in his efforts to serve and protect our County,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
“Marshall was known for his relentless work investigating and solving his cases. He was a dedicated and experienced asset to our Sheriff’s Office and he will be missed.”
Before retiring, Lewis took part in a Sheriff’s Office tradition, the “final 10-42” call, with 10-42 being code for ending one’s tour of duty. Lewis’s final 10-42 carried particular significance, as it was written and dispatched by his wife Kaitlin, a 911 dispatcher for Jersey County and her Dispatcher partner Megan.
“Your hard work and selfless dedication to our community will be remembered,” Kaitlin said on the final 10-42 call. “We wish you the best on your next chapter. Enjoy retirement.”
Lewis responded: “There have been some good memories made, they’ll never be forgotten. It’s been a family, for sure.”
The department concluded its announcement by congratulating Lewis on his retirement, adding: “Thank you for your service and Godspeed to you and your family!”
