COLLINSVILLE — Illinois State Police announced the results of roadside safety checks conducted in Madison and St. Clair counties in June, reporting 76 total citations and arrests, including one DUI citation, as part of an effort aimed at reducing impaired driving and improving road safety.
ISP Troop 8 Commander Capt. Casey Faro announced the results of the roadside safety checks, which also produced 102 written warnings. The enforcement activity included nine other alcohol- or drug-related citations, 10 occupant restraint offenses, 22 registration offenses, 19 driver’s license offenses and 10 insurance violations.

According to the Illinois State Police, alcohol and drug impairment are estimated to be a factor in more than 47% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. The agency also said there is one alcohol-related traffic fatality every 39 minutes in the United States.
“Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” the announcement said.
Illinois State Police said roadside safety checks are designed to keep roads safe by removing dangerous DUI offenders from the road. The project was funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
