With the heat advisory currently in effect combined with the poor air quality, community members are encouraged to stay indoors. Reduce outdoor activity when possible. If you experience symptoms, go inside to cleaner air.

Kids under age 18 and adults over age 65 might be especially sensitive. The air quality can also affect those who experience diabetes or chronic heart or lung issues. Pregnant people should be aware of the risks. Community members who work outside might experience prolonged exposure, which can be dangerous.

If you must be outside and you are sensitive to the air quality, you can wear an N95 or KN95 mask to avoid ingesting dangerous particles. People are encouraged to keep their windows closed. You can run your air conditioning on the “recirculate” setting to further avoid poor air quality.

You can check the air quality at any time at AirNow.gov.
