GODFREY - The Alton-Godfrey Rotary Club will present its “Gordon F. Moore Service Above Self” award to Pam Whisler on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026, at Lewis and Clark Commons in Godfrey, recognizing the longtime Godfrey public servant and volunteer for service to others. The dinner will begin at 5 p.m.

The Rotary Club said it is presenting the award for only the 10th time in its 105-year history. The honor, named for Dr. Gordon Moore, incorporates Rotary’s motto and is given to a non-Rotarian who exemplifies placing service to others over personal gain.
Whisler served for many years in Godfrey Township and later as the first village clerk for Godfrey. According to information provided, she was originally elected in 1985 and served until her retirement from office in 2018.
She started working in the Godfrey Township supervisor’s office before the village was formally incorporated in 1992. She worked in the commodities office, helping people who qualified for government programs receive benefits, specifically food.
Whisler later became assistant to the Godfrey Township secretary. In 1985, she ran for Godfrey Township clerk. She won that position in 1990 and later ran for Godfrey village clerk in 1992 after the village was formally incorporated. She held both positions through several subsequent elections.
During her time in office, Whisler described the role as being the keeper of records and the liaison between the community and the village trustees. She said she was proud of how her office kept up with changing communication technology.
“Communications have improved a lot since I’ve been here,” she said. “We had a mimeograph machine to a typewriter to a computer to now having everything all over social media.”
Whisler’s last day on the job was Dec. 28, 2018, with her retirement officially beginning Dec. 31, 2018.
The Rotary said Whisler remains active with the Godfrey Women’s Club, Riverbend Growth Association and Pride Inc., along with twice-weekly golf outings and marshalling at Rolling Hills Golf Course.
“Pam Whisler has been a dedicated and humble public servant for 50 years. She is a most worthy choice,” the release said.
Proceeds from the dinner will be used by the Rotary to fund scholarship programs, including the college-bound Student of the Year and the Moyer scholarship for students enrolled in industrial career programs at Lewis and Clark Community College.
Tickets are $75 each or $600 for a table of eight. The Rotary requests that tickets be purchased by Oct. 4. Tickets may be obtained online at https://altongodfreyrotary.org/ or in person at Norton-Rain, Carrollton Bank or Scheffel Boyle.
