EDWARDSVILLE - Front access has been restored within the construction zone in the 100 block of North Main Street in Edwardsville, the City of Edwardsville announced in a project update, marking a milestone in a major infrastructure project that still has significant work to be done.

The City of Edwardsville administration said the restored access allows people to walk the stretch and visit shops, restaurants and service providers in the area.

The update said the project involves replacing a roughly 130-year-old water main, lining the sewer mains, making safety and accessibility improvements, and enhancing the streetscape and landscaping.

“For certain, there’s plenty of work that remains to be done with this massive project, but take a stroll down this stretch and visit your favorite shop, restaurant, and service provider,” the city said in the update.

The city described the restored access as “a wonderful milestone in the lengthy and involved process” tied to the broader North Main Street project.

The update also reminded visitors that parking is available in the lot behind the 100 block of North Main.
