EDWARDSVILLE - Six Edwardsville High School seniors have been named Commended Students in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program, recognizing their exceptional academic promise.

Those six students are:
- Rheece Garavalia
- Kaylee Hauschild
- Sophia McGillis
- Cohen Schmidt
- Daniel Wang
- Amelia Zhang
Approximately 34,000 students nationwide were named Commended Students in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program. These students are being recognized for the exceptional academic promise demonstrated through their performance on the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the PSAT/NMSQT. They are recognized for their academic achievement but do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships.
The six EHS Commended Students join Alan Chen, Jude Luesse and David Maloney, who were previously announced as National Merit Semifinalists.
The National Merit Scholarship Program began in 1955 and recognizes academically talented students based on their skills, accomplishments and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
