East Alton Police requested assistance because of the crowd's size, Golike said. Officers from Alton, Wood River, Bethalto and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office were among those who responded.
Golike said once squad cars arrived, officers got the situation under control in less than an hour. Police cleared the parking lot.
The East Alton Police Department is investigating potential criminal incidents involving fighting and battery, Golike said. Police are also investigating possible criminal mob action.
Investigators are expected to follow up throughout the week and determine whether charges should be recommended to the Madison County state’s attorney’s office, Golike said.
Golike said the mayor’s office would decide whether to request changes in the future for gatherings involving the bar.
