From 2–8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026, you can shuttle between five locations in downtown Alton and enjoy music from 28 bands and artists. Rock the Hops is an annual event that promotes the local music scene. Organizers Hope and Drew Mader couldn’t be more excited to bring musicians from across the Greater St. Louis region to Alton.

“I hope that everyone has a great day. I hope that everyone is kind and courteous to each other, represents our city well. I think that’s really important,” Hope said. “We want to highlight in a positive way what’s going on here in Alton. We want people to come out, to be representative of what we have here. I think the reason that we’ve done this for so many years is in hopes of a culture shift, a shift in mindset a little bit, to just really honor and appreciate art and how that contributes to our community, how that contributes to the renaissance of our community.”

A few tickets are still available online, or you can buy tickets at one of the five venues — Post Commons, The Old Bakery Beer Company, The Conservatory, FLOCK Food Truck Park & Bar, or Bossanova Martini Lounge — before Aug. 8. On Saturday, you must check in between 2–4 p.m. at the Alton Visitors’ Center and show your ID to receive a wristband and tasting glass.

The shuttles start running at 2 p.m., and you can hop between the five venues throughout the afternoon. In addition to the music, there is craft beer sampling at every venue featuring local breweries.

The featured bands and musicians are “all headliners,” and the music genres range “everything from jazz, blues, hip hop, Americana, folk, rock, punk, electronic,” Hope and Drew said. The duo hopes attendees enjoy the music and go on to support these musicians beyond Aug. 8.

“Pretty much all of the bands in the lineup are actively releasing new music, at least on streaming,” Drew explained. “If they have vinyl out, I imagine they’ll be bringing that out too for purchase. If you’re coming, bring a little extra money. You may find your new favorite band and want to buy a t-shirt or a record or something.”

Hope also expressed her appreciation for the venues. She believes the Rock the Hops team has built strong relationships with all of these establishments over the years, and she looks forward to celebrating the day at the different bars and restaurants.

“We’re really appreciative that they trust us,” she said. “It’s just that relationship that we’ve built. They trust us with their space, with curating talent that could be a good fit or perhaps push the envelope just a little bit for them and their patrons.”

Drew and Hope pointed out that the festival gives rising artists a platform to hone their craft and showcase original music, which is rare. They hope Rock the Hops is a chance for the community to engage with new music and support local musicians.

“The venues that regularly welcome original music are few and far between. Typically, you get bar bands looking to entertain a crowd more so than artists looking to express themselves for a crowd and build their craft and gain a following. It’s definitely a special day, and it’s always really well-received,” Drew added. “It’s super important to us to keep the legacy of Alton music rolling forward.”

Drew and Hope are proud of their lineup and eager to spend the day enjoying music with Riverbend community members. They encourage attendees to represent Alton well and celebrate the city alongside the music.
