Reed, a senior, has played varsity football since his freshman year. He also participates on the track and field team and the basketball team. It takes a lot of responsibility to balance sports and school, but Reed does this gracefully.
He has been a member of the Upward Bound Program and the 100 Black Men of America Pathways to Manhood organization for years. He also serves his school as a student office assistant, and he guides underclassmen as a Link Crew leader.
Reed has an accomplished academic background. He is a member of the mathematics honor society Mu Alpha Theta. He was named a National Merit Scholar qualifier, which is a major achievement. Reed has also maintained his spot on the high honor roll throughout high school.
He has spent some time in the architectural drafting and welding programs. He also recently joined the Minority Excellence organization.
Outside of school, Reed serves as an NAACP Youth Council member and a member of the Boys and Girls Club of Alton. He gives back through these organizations and is a great role model for younger students.
He is a member of a local church and has played on the ELITE Speed 7v7 football team. This past summer, he joined the Lincoln University of Missouri’s SOAR/Thurgood Marshall College Fund Summer Boot Camp Program and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign 7v7 Football Camp.
In his limited free time, Reed enjoys traveling, being in nature, and hanging out with friends. He has big plans for after graduation, and his teachers and loved ones can’t wait to see him succeed.
“After graduating high school this May, I plan to attend a four-year university to major in civil engineering with a minor in business administration/management,” he shared. “I would like to work as a civil engineer at a corporate firm. After working as a civil engineer I plan to own a corporate business engineering firm.”
Congratulations to D’Marlo for this recognition by Alton High School and the Hayner Public Library District!
