SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Tuesday announced 797 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 95 additional confirmed deaths.

On Monday, there were 658 new cases of COVID-19 in the state over the past 24 hours, so that number was the lowest single-day increase in cases since 460 new cases were confirmed on March 30, according to data from the Illinois Department of Public Health.
In Madison County there are 644 total Madison County COVID-19 cases, with 4 new ones in the past 24 hours. A total of 65 lives have been lost in Madison County to COVID-19. Edwardsville has 118 COVID-19 cases, Alton has 107, Granite City has 90, Glen Carbon has 77, Wood River has 27 cases, Godfrey has 25 cases, Bethalto has 17 cases and East Alton has 12 cases.
St. Clair County has 1,340 cases of COVID-19 and 98 deaths, Macoupin County has 46 cases and 2 deaths, Jersey has 26 cases and 1 death, Greene County has 7 cases and Calhoun County has 2 cases.
Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 129,212 cases, including 6,018 deaths, in 101 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 20,309 specimens for a total of 1,079,182. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from June 2 –June 8 is 4 percent.

Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, IDPH is now reporting both confirmed and probable cases and deaths on its website. Reporting probable cases will help show the potential burden of COVID-19 illness and efficacy of population-based non-pharmaceutical interventions.
