EDWARDSVILLE - Construction on Edwardsville’s North Main Street water main replacement and streetscape project will shift to the west side of the road started early Thursday, July 30, 2026, the City of Edwardsville said, moving the two alternating traffic lanes to the east side as crews continue work.

The City of Edwardsville said construction barrels and barricades will mark the new work zone and shifted traffic lanes. Drivers were asked to use caution.

The change affects North Main Street, where left turns from the southbound lane onto East Vandalia Street will continue to be prohibited even after traffic shifts to the east alternating lanes, according to the city.

Using the new traffic configuration, work crews will construct pedestrian crossing bump-outs on the west side and prepare for road resurfacing later in the project.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding as this project progresses,” the City of Edwardsville said.
