Margaret Freer, one of the Freer Auto Body owners, said the campaign still has “several unsold raffle tickets” with more than three weeks remaining before the event. Freer asked for volunteers to pick up ticket packs and help sell them, while also encouraging support for two restaurant fundraisers tied to the effort.
“Christmas in July is fast approaching, and we need help,” Freer said.
Brown Bag Bistro will hold a dine-to-donate fundraiser July 20-24, and Bakers & Hale will host another on July 19, 2026, according to the announcement. Freer described the restaurant events as “an easy way to help our mission.”
“Everyone eats out, so help us out,” she said.
Christmas in July will run from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on July 24 at Freer Auto Body in Godfrey. Attendees can enjoy sloppy joes, chips and a cold drink. Cash donations also will be accepted, and all proceeds will benefit the Community Christmas campaign.
Freer said the fundraiser is important to the organization’s work helping residents.
“Without this event, many would not have coats, Christmas or needed items we take for granted,” she said. “Every dime raised stays here and is spent helping those in need.”
Taylor and Lily Freer, Margaret Freer’s granddaughters, sponsor the event.
Freer also said the campaign is seeking additional advertising, support and donations. Those wishing to make a tax-deductible donation to Community Christmas may do so by making a check payable to Community Christmas, 4512 N. Alby, Godfrey, IL.
“We could use all the support we can get,” Freer said.
