McRae left his seat to become the Madison County Circuit Clerk, and in his first act of business, he hired Wesley as his chief deputy.

Prenzler made an official declaration of vacancies for the two seats last week.

According to state statute, those appointed to the seats must be from the same political party as the previous officeholders and live within the district. McRae and Wesley are both Republicans.

Prenzler said he would be interviewing candidates to fill the two seats and bringing the nominations forward to be confirmed by the full board no later than its Jan. 20, 2021 meeting.
