Calista is a Midwest Members Credit Union Female Athlete of the Month for the Shells. According to Post-Dispatch statistics, she had four homers, 24 RBIs, and 211 strikeouts on the mound in 125 innings.
Calista’s father, Wade, is the Roxana High School girls' softball coach. He is also the Wood River Fire Chief. Wade inspires Calista and the other girls on the team with his coaching and training techniques.
Wade said Calista is “a mentally strong kid.” She is also an outstanding student. In the fall, she is a member of the Roxana girls' volleyball team and is a standout overall student-athlete.
“Calista grew up on a ball field because of her sister,” Wade said. “We did a lot of traveling when Calista was young, so she has always been exposed to softball and understands the game.”
Wade said he thinks Calista has considerable potential with the other girls on the team as she moves into her senior year. He said he looks forward to how she develops for the following spring and it is likely a lot of college scouts will be out watching the hurler with such a strong arm. She is equally powerful at the plate.
