“He is so intimidating at the plate and anchored our team," Coach Erwin said of Wendler's efforts in 2026.

"Wendler has been a captain and played varsity since his freshman year," the coach added. "I don’t think he played a JV game in his career here. He is excellent at the plate; he always wants to hit in key situations. He has a lot of power and can hit to all parts of the park with power. He drives a lot of runs in. He is also great in the field. He helped keep our guys calm."

Wendler will continue his baseball career at the University of Illinois-Springfield. When he signed last fall, he said, “I am excited and blessed to announce my commitment to the University of Illinois-Springfield to continue my baseball career. I am so thankful for this opportunity and to everyone who helped me along the way.”

This past spring, Wendler hit .444 with 52 hits and 49 RBIs, including 22 doubles and eight home runs.
