The call came in shortly after 7:30 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire in the garage that had already spread into the house.
Due to the size of the fire and the extreme heat, a box alarm was requested. Firefighters from Fosterburg, Alton and Brighton responded to assist with additional manpower. Madison County EMA and Alton Memorial Ambulance also responded.
Firefighters faced an additional challenge because there were no nearby hydrants. Crews had to deploy a significant amount of hose to reach a hydrant while battling the fire.
“The fire appears to have started in the garage and spread to the house. Firefighters were able to arrive quickly and get a knock on the house. The house sustained significant damage,” Godfrey Assistant Chief Tom Wills said.
No injuries were reported.
“I want to thank all the agencies that responded to help us tonight,” Wills said.
