CARLINVILLE - Blackburn College is having the second monthly installment of their 'Raise the Bar' speaker series on Saturday, February 20, 2021, at 10 am. The speaker series are free, completely virtual discussions that offer opportunities to learn from Blackburn professors and administrators as they discuss timely topics and share some of their life experiences.

"Music and Theatre" is the second panel in the series. This event will explore how students at Blackburn bring these programs to life while in a nontraditional learning environment. As they continue through the pandemic, the Department of Music and Theatre is creating opportunities for students to engage in their art. Students are reaching and expanding their audiences through virtual performances of plays, recitals, and the Madrigal Dinner. Professional artists are helping train students through masterclasses and class visits. They also have recently launched a new competition to provide additional outside feedback for the students. Most importantly, they are dedicated to preparing students for a career after Blackburn. Speakers for this event include Ms. Laura Matthews, visiting professor of Theatre, and Dr. Joseph Welch, visiting professor of Music.
