Cletious R. Robinson is charged with one count of unlawful possession of firearms, a Class 4 felony, in connection with the Nov. 2, 2026, shooting in Alton. Alton Police received a call just after 2:16 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2026, from a woman who said she was taking the shooting victim to a local hospital. Officers and detectives responded to the hospital and the residence in the 1900 block of Alby Street.
Alton Police Chief Jarrett Ford said the 39-year-old victim was treated for a gunshot wound to the shoulder area, which was not life-threatening.
The Alton Police investigation revealed that a single round had been fired from a lower-level room, upward through the floor of an upper-level room, where the victim was located. Robinson was taken into custody during the investigation and charged by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office, led by Tom Haine, with one count of unlawful possession of firearms.
"This incident is a reminder that a firearm inside a home is a danger to everyone in that home when it is not lawfully possessed, properly stored and handled responsibly," Chief Ford said.
The charge alleges Robinson knowingly possessed a Palmetto State Armory 5.56 NATO platform pistol. Charging documents cite a Nov. 15, 2023, delinquency adjudication in Madison County Circuit Court.
In a motion filed Nov. 4, 2026, prosecutors requested additional conditions on Robinson’s pretrial release, alleging he had unlawfully armed himself, resulting in injury, and presented a continuing threat of unlawfully possessing firearms.
The motion asks the court to impose standard release conditions and additional conditions for the victim’s protection, safety and well-being.
