The Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Hawthorne to commemorate the organization’s 70th year in business. Paul Meyer, owner and veterinarian, has been a part of this work since 1981, and he highlighted the value of helping the community and their furry family members to live their best, healthiest lives.
“Nothing makes me happier than to see that patient walk out feeling better than when they came in,” he said. “That’s what makes me want to come to work every day, to be able to help these people and their pets in their time of need.”
Meyer noted that Hawthorne Animal Hospital is “blessed” to have such an “exceptional” team. Vets, vet techs and customer service representatives come together to make sure the animals receive the best care.
Customer service representative Shannon Van Patten acknowledged that there can be sad days, but also a lot of happiness when the team can help a patient feel better or support a pet owner. Hawthorne works hard to keep pets healthy and happy.
“People count on us to take care of their furry family members just the way that you would at a traditional hospital for Grandma or Mom or what have you,” Van Patten said. “No matter how many doctors we have working here, they will all work together and put their brains together to make sure they’re giving the best customer care.”
The dedication shines through, and the community has taken note over the past 70 years. Kristen Fries is a longtime client. Her dog Rocket has been going to Hawthorne for six years, and she is confident in the Hawthorne team.
“I always feel comfortable knowing that he’s going to receive the best care to make sure that everything is going well for him,” she said. “It’s just a wonderful feeling to know that your dog is well-cared-for and loved.”
Fries also serves as the executive director of the Edwardsville Children’s Museum. She noted that Hawthorne is a “longtime supporter” of the museum, and one of its most popular exhibits — a pet hospital where kids can play at being veterinarians — is sponsored by the organization.
It’s important to Meyer, Van Patten and the rest of their team to give back to the community like this. Hawthorne Animal Hospital is devoted to making sure the community’s pets are cared for, and pet owners have peace of mind knowing Hawthorne advocates for their animals.
Meyer thanked the community for giving Hawthorne an incredible 70 years so far. He hopes the hospital can continue to grow and help more animals and pet owners along the way.
“Hawthorne is blessed to be in a community like Edwardsville and Glen Carbon,” he added. “We celebrate this milestone, but we can’t stop there. We’re going to be here for as long as we can be in the community. We think that privately-owned local animal hospitals are the types of things that communities need.”
