Loaded Firearm Found at High School After Student Went Through Metal Detectors

ST. LOUIS — An 18-year-old Normandy High School student faces a felony charge after school authorities found a loaded firearm in his backpack at the school’s metal detectors on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026, according to information from St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Price Smith’s office.

Jayden Saddler entered the school through the front door and proceeded to the metal detectors with his backpack. School authorities discovered the firearm there, and responding police arrested him.

Smith’s office charged Saddler with one count of unlawful use of a weapon for carrying a loaded weapon into a school. The Class E felony is punishable by up to four years in prison.

Saddler is being held on a $50,000 cash-only bond, with no option to post 10% of that amount.

The charge is an accusation, and Saddler is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
