EDWARDSVILLE - Edwardsville's girls flag football team notched a key win on Wednesday night, Sept. 16, 2026, over Southwestern Conference rival East St. Louis 19-6 at home.

Quarterback Ella Wallace tossed two touchdown passes to Kennedy Gieseking, and Sophia Antonini had a lateral toss from quarterback Wallace then completed a touchdown to Stella Worman from about 10 yards for the final score, head girls flag football coach Taylor Hay said.

Zakeyla Perry threw a touchdown pass to Aleeha Turner for the East St. Louis score.

The Tigers' defense, led by Jahzara Zakkour, was almost unstoppable all night and played havoc with the Flyers' offense.

"In every conference game we feel it's like a championship game," Head Coach Hay of the Tigers said on Thursday morning, Sept. 17, 2026, waiting in anticipation for an evening contest against another rival Thursday evening - Belleville West.

Hay said the team struggled somewhat offensively in the contest until the fourth quarter, but it was great to pull out a conference win over such a tough opponent as East St. Louis.
