During the regular Alton Community Unit School District #11 Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2026, the Board honored Lily Burns, Lillian Fazio, Carter Stahl and Trenton Wilson for their success in the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) program.

Kelsie Davison, who teaches Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) at Alton High School, introduced the students involved in FCCLA. She explained that the program is a Career and Technical Student Organization that encourages the students to give back and learn about topics that might impact their career choices.

“[It] helps our students gain leadership skills and community and career readiness connections outside of our classes,” Davison said.

Throughout the 2025–2026 school year, the FCCLA students donated meals to The Salvation Army and local churches, made dog toys for 5 A’s Animal Shelter, created drink coasters for local nursing homes, and provided a meal at The Ronald McDonald House in St. Louis. They also participated in the Pride, Inc. City-Wide Cleanup and attended various leadership trainings and conferences.

Davison noted that all of the FCCLA students learned a lot about helping others and engaging with the community beyond the school district.

But she was especially proud of the students who decided to compete at the national level. These students won sectional and state competitions, which qualified them to compete nationally.

Burns took home a silver medal in the Professional Presentation category for her talk about substance use and pregnancy. Fazio competed in Sports Nutrition and received a gold medal; she was ranked number four out of 85 students across the nation.

Stahl won a silver medal for his Chapter in Review Display, while Wilson took home a silver medal for his Sustainability Challenge project focused on microplastics.

The Board of Education honored each student with a certificate and thanked them for representing the high school.

“We are incredibly proud of our FCCLA chapter and our program that highlights our FCS department with remarkable achievements for our students who represented both our school and the state of Illinois at the national level,” Davison added.
