GODFREY – The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced the closure of Pierce Lane between Illinois 3 and Cook Street and westbound West Delmar at Illinois 3 beginning Monday, Aug. 17, weather permitting, for road reconstruction.

Pierce Lane will be closed between Illinois 3 and Cook Street. The newly constructed Cook Street will provide access between Illinois 3 and Pierce Lane.

Westbound West Delmar will be closed at Illinois 3, and motorists will not be able to access Illinois 3 from West Delmar at this location. Motorists will need to use an alternate route.

The closures are expected to remain in place through July 2027, weather permitting.

Motorists who want to avoid the construction area are encouraged to use the following alternate routes:

Westbound: Homer Adams Parkway to Godfrey Road northbound to U.S. 67 southbound to the Great River Road westbound to Clifton Terrace Drive to Illinois 3.

Eastbound: Illinois 3 to Clifton Terrace Drive to the Great River Road eastbound to U.S. 67 northbound to Godfrey Road southbound to Homer Adams Parkway.

This portion of work is part of a larger project that will construct a dual roundabout connecting Illinois 3, West Delmar and Pierce Lane. Construction of the roundabouts is expected to continue through 2028. Advance notice will be provided as traffic impacts and construction details are confirmed.

Drivers are urged to reduce speed, obey all construction signage and refrain from using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone and detour route.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Seven of Rebuild Illinois include $25.6 billion of improvements statewide to 24,498 lane miles of highway, 959 bridges and 1,475 additional safety improvements.
