GRANITE CITY — Tyler Moore, a senior forward for Granite City’s boys basketball team, said a season of hard work and growth helped lead the Warriors to a 16-15 turnaround campaign in 2025-26 after the team finished 9-23 a year earlier.

Moore averaged 4.1 points and 1.6 rebounds per game this season, while adding 31 assists and 24 steals. He said he appreciated what the team accomplished during the rebound season.
“It was a hard fight,” Moore said. “It was a really hard-fought season, and a big comeback from last year, growing my guys this season, growing with them this summer, working so hard this summer to get where we are now.”

Moore said the key in the game against the Kahoks came down to the fundamentals of team basketball.
“The key to the game was hard work,” Moore said, “defense, executing our plays, getting the ball to the right guys, getting the ball out o the wrong guys’ hands, guarding the right people. It was down to the nitty-gritty, but my teammates, they had really good plays. Javier Cass had a very, very good game; he had 17 points, Johnnie (Coleman III), he had a tough three in the corner, Evan (Brewer) fought his way against a big kid, it was really just a hard-fought game.”
Moore said he also is looking ahead to Granite City’s return to the Southwestern Conference in the 2026-27 season, when the Warriors will join first-year members Mascoutah and Triad. Although he will not be part of that team, he said he is excited for his former teammates to experience the conference schedule.
“Granite City will be getting back into the Southwestern Conference,” Moore said. “We’re going against (East St. Louis), (Belleville) East, Belleville West, all the top guys, all the top schools. Electric crowds, a lot of energy.”
Moore said his favorite memory with the Warriors came in the team’s first home game of the season, when he made two go-ahead free throws against O’Fallon.
“The first home game of the season,” Moore said. “I hit two game-winning free throws against O’Fallon to put us in the lead. It was just a great win with my guys.”
