Timothy L. McCann, 58, of Bethalto, was charged on June 29, 2026, with one count each of threatening a public official (a Class 3 felony), domestic battery, and resisting a peace officer (both Class A misdemeanors).
Two days prior on June 27, McCann allegedly knowingly made verbal statements threatening to take the life of a Bethalto Police Officer. On the same date, McCann is also accused of resisting arrest by pulling away from the same officer and ignoring lawful orders, as well as causing bodily harm to a household or family member.
The Bethalto Police Department presented the case against McCann, who has since been ordered released from custody with additional conditions imposed on his release.
Under the conditions of his release, McCann has been ordered to have no contact with the domestic battery victim in this case and remain at least 500 feet away from them at all times. He has also been ordered not to enter the premises of the victim’s Bethalto residence except on one occasion with a police escort to gather belongings.
McCann’s preliminary hearing in this case has been set for July 24, 2026, at the Madison County Criminal Justice Center.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
