WASHINGTON, Mo. - Alton Post 126's senior American Legion baseball team was held to four hits, as Wayne Newton Post 346 of Terre Haute, Ind. scored five times in the bottom of the fifth to defeat the Legionnaires 6-2 in the first game of a tournament being played this past weekend in Washington, Mo.

It was the third loss in the last five games for the Legionnaires, who saw their record drop to 10-6 on the season, with the District 22 playoffs starting in mid-July.

Post 346 scored a single run in the bottom of the second to go in front 1-0, only to see Alton put up two runs in the top of the third to allow the Legionnaires to take a 2-1 lead. Terre Haute then scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth, then retired Alton in the top of the sixth to take the win 6-2.

Carter Watson had a hit and RBI for Post 126, while John Kunz, Jayce Steinkuehler, and John Kodros also had hits, and Hayden Schepers drove in another run. Landon Sitze started on the mound and was tagged with the loss, going 4.2 innings, allowing six runs, five earned, on seven hits, walking three and striking out two. Tate Powell came on in relief to get the final out in the fifth, allowing no runs on no hits, walking one and fanning one.

Post 126 played against Eureka, Mo. Post 177 to finish the group stage of the tournament on Saturday evening, and will play in a tournament in Steeleville over Fourth of July weekend, playing first on Friday at 4 and 6 p.m.
