EDWARDSVILLE, IL — Judge Patrick King today announced his intention to seek election to the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Stephen Stobbs.

Judge King currently serves as a Circuit Judge in Madison County and brings extensive judicial and legal experience, commitment to public service, reputation for fairness and integrity to his candidacy, and a dedication to family and community.

The Illinois Supreme Court appointed Judge King as a Circuit Judge in 2025 reflecting confidence in his professional experience, ethics and judgment, and dedication to the administration of justice. Judge King underwent an extensive evaluation process by a professional screening committee, which included local attorneys and a retired Chief Judge of the Third Judicial Circuit, Madison County.

"It has been a true privilege to serve the citizens of Madison County," said Judge King. "I am grateful for the trust that has been placed in me by the Illinois Supreme Court, my colleagues within the legal profession, and the community.” Judge King is committed and stated, “it is my goal to earn the trust and confidence of the voters to continue serving as a Circuit Judge.”

Judge King’s career has been marked by leadership and service. While in private practice, Judge King served as managing partner, mediator, arbitrator, hearing officer, attorney for local government, guardian ad litem for children and disabled persons, and past president of local associations, including the Madison County Bar Association. Judge King served on the Catholic Children’s Home Advisory Board along with other not-for-profit organizations.

Throughout his career, Judge King has earned the respect of attorneys, litigants, court personnel, and fellow judges because of his commitment to faithfully serve the public, upholding the Constitution, maintaining the integrity of the judiciary, preserving the right to a fair and impartial jury trial, showing empathy and compassion to all people, and ensuring access to the courts.

Judge King emphasized that the Madison County Judiciary has a tradition of excellence and pledged to continue upholding the highest standards if elected.

"I remain committed to ensuring that every case is handled with fairness, efficiency, and respect for the rule of law while showing compassion and respect to everyone who appears before me in court,” said Judge King.
