According to previously released information from St. Louis County, officers from the Shrewsbury Police Department responded at about 2:08 a.m. March 29, when there was a call for service for a domestic disturbance in the 7500 block of Murdoch Avenue. Police said that upon arrival, officers discovered a suspect who had forced his way into a home, was armed with a firearm, and was holding an adult male victim at gunpoint.

At about 2:30 a.m. on March 29, the St. Louis County Police Department Tactical Operations Unit and the Crisis Negotiations Team were requested and responded to the scene to begin crisis intervention negotiations, authorities said. Negotiators spoke with the suspect for more than an hour “in an attempt to de-escalate the situation,” but the suspect became “agitated and uncooperative,” police said.

Just after 5:32 a.m., police said, the suspect pointed his firearm at the victim, and a St. Louis County Police tactical operations officer fired, striking the suspect at least one time. The 30-year-old suspect was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The victim was not injured, and no officers were physically injured, police said.

On March 30, 2026, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued charges against Connor Will, 30, of the 600 block of Butler Drive in Eureka, Mo., for first-degree burglary, two counts of armed criminal action, first-degree kidnapping, unlawful use of a weapon, and resisting arrest, detention or stop by fleeing and creating a substantial risk of serious injury or death to any person, according to county officials.

Will was being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond with no 10% option, and “remains hospitalized in police custody,” the county said. A booking photo was not available.

A probable cause statement said officers responded to a 911 call from a female who reported someone had broken into their home at around 2 a.m. on March 29, 2026. It said Shrewsbury Police arrived to find the defendant inside the home with a gun pointed toward a male victim in the corner of a bedroom. The statement said a tactical team was called to respond to “an ongoing hostage situation” and a negotiator attempted to defuse it.

“During negotiations, defendant lunges toward the victim with a gun and knife in hand and is shot by law enforcement,” the probable cause statement said.

The statement said the victim told officers he and his wife were awakened by beating on the door, and that he then saw the defendant, armed with a knife and gun, enter the home. The victim said his wife was able to escape, but he was ordered to sit in a corner and contact his daughter and have her speak with the defendant, according to the statement.

St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons detectives are handling the investigation, county officials said.

County officials noted that charges are merely an accusation and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
