Highland struck first in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly by Kaden Leckrone. Civic Memorial answered in the bottom half, taking a 2-1 lead after Luke Clouser was hit by a pitch and Brock Rust singled down the left-field line, with each play driving in a run.
Highland tied it in the top of the third when Nolan Barber singled to right field to make it 2-2. Easton Carey put Highland ahead for good with a single in the top of the fifth, giving Highland a 3-2 lead.
Tyler Mehrtens earned the win for Highland, allowing seven hits and two runs over five innings while striking out five and walking two.
Hudson Wesley took the loss for Civic Memorial, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits in three innings with three strikeouts and no walks. Chase Butler started on the mound for Civic Memorial and allowed five hits and two runs over four innings, striking out one and walking none.
Clouser and Rust each drove in a run for Civic Memorial. Jacob Flowers led Civic Memorial at the plate, going 3 for 4. Civic Memorial turned one double play.
Highland finished with nine hits. Carey led Highland with two RBIs and went 2 for 4.
