GLEN CARBON — The Hillsboro Lady Toppers used an eight-run second inning to defeat the Father McGivney Catholic Varsity Griffins 13-0 on Thursday.

Hillsboro opened the scoring in the first inning when Bailey Chappelear drew a walk that brought in a run.
The Lady Toppers broke the game open in the top of the second, scoring eight runs on four hits.
The inning included RBI contributions from Briley Kirby on a single, Ella Schaake on a walk, Mikenna McSperritt on a two-run single, and Reynolds on a single, along with three runs that scored on errors.
Hillsboro added two more runs in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Kaya Connor and a single to right field by Schaake, each driving in a run.
Lainey Lessman started for Hillsboro and held Father McGivney scoreless, allowing two hits over five innings while striking out seven and walking none.
Alexa Jones started for Father McGivney and allowed 13 runs, 10 earned, on nine hits over five innings. She walked nine and did not record a strikeout.
Morgan Zobrist and Nora Mensing each had a hit for the Griffins. Kirby and Reynolds collected two hits apiece for Hillsboro, while Schaake and McSperritt drove in two runs each.
Hillsboro drew nine walks, with Peyton Chappelear and Bailey Chappelear leading the team with two apiece.
