
GODFREY - Marquette Catholic's girls soccer team got a timely breakthrough goal from junior Riley Tiemann and added an insurance goal from senior Maddie Waters to beat rival Granite City 2-0 on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Glazebook Park in Godfrey.

The win lifted Marquette to 12-4-2 overall. The Explorers are ranked No. 6 in the latest MaxPreps Illinois Class 1A girls soccer poll.
Tiemann scored her first goal of the season in the first half after taking a pass from teammate Rylie Jacobs in the center of the field about 25 yards out. Tiemann took a touch and sent a shot over the outstretched hands of the Granite City goalkeeper, dipping under the crossbar.
Marquette's Waters made it 2-0 on a penalty kick, burying the ball into the corner after a foul in the box on junior Alex Stephan.
Goalkeeper Jessica Eales and the backline of Waters, Delaney Ortmann, Jacobs, and Emma Dempsey earned the shutout for the Explorers, their 11th of the season.
Granite City fell to 6-10-1 overall. The Warriors’ season includes a 1-0 loss to O’Fallon and a 0-0 tie with Triad.
Marquette travels to Hillsboro on Friday and concludes the regular season on Monday at home.
