ALTON — The Alton Police Department responded Sunday morning to an armed robbery at the Phillips 66 gas station, located at 1660 East Broadway next door to the police department.

Officers arrived at the gas station and began investigating, learning the suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle.

A short time later, police were notified that a vehicle matching the suspect’s description was located in the 2900 block of East Broadway. Officers responded to that location and were seen giving commands to the suspect.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Police officials confirmed the robbery at the gas station and the police response in the 2900 block of East Broadway were connected.

No injuries were reported during the robbery.
