East Alton Police Chief Scott Golike said the crash "appears to be related to conditions, speed, and lane usage."

Chief Golike described the crash as "a lane-maneuver incident." One of the drivers was reported to have approached northbound traffic, gone around another vehicle, cut back in and clipped the front of the other vehicle, he said.

Both drivers, identified only as “driver no 1” and “driver no 2,” were taken from the scene to Alton hospitals.
