EDWARDSVILLE - Marley Fox had another stellar performance in the circle, giving up only one hit and striking our seven, while teammate Audrey De La Torre Cruz also had a big day, hitting a grand slam in the first inning, and driving in six runs, as Edwardsville defeated Alton 10-0 in a Southwestern Conference softball game Tuesday afternoon at EHS.

The Tuesday win was the Tigers’ sixth straight and advances their record to 13-7 on the season. Edwardsville opened up with a four-run first inning and never looked back in taking the win to improve to 2-0 in the Southwestern Conference.
Edwardsville started off strong as Brokke Burris and Amelia Wilfong reached on errors, and Lily Stone drew a walk, which set the stage for De La Torre Crux, who hit a 0-1 pitch over the fence in center for a grand slam to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead. In the second, Lily Maxwell tripled to right and scored on an RBI double by Burris to make it 5-0.
Wilfong then singled home Burris to make it 6-0, going to second on the throw to the plate. Wilfong went to third on a ground out, and a ground out by De La Torre Cruz brought in Wilfong to make it 7-0 for Edwardsville,
In the third, with two out, Remi Werden reached on a dropped fly ball by the left fielder, reaching second on the play, then scored on a Maxwell RBI single to up the score to 8-0, Burris then singled home Maxwell to make the score 9-0, and in the fourth, back-to-back triples by Stone and De La Torre Cruz brought in Stone to make it 10-0. Alton went out in order in the top of the fifth to end the game on the 10-run rule, giving the Tigers the win.
De La Torre Cruz’s two-hit, six RBI day led the way for Edwardsville, while Burris had two hits and two RBIs, Maxwell came up with two hits and an RBI, Wilfong had a hit and RBI, and both Stone and Sophie Antonini had a hit each. Fox went four innings in the circle, allowing only one hit and four baserunners the entire day, walking two and hitting another batter, and fanning seven. Makaela Pippins pitched a perfect fifth to get the win.
Gabby Gonzalez had the only hit of the day for the Redbirds, while Makenzie Rayfield thew three innings inside the circle, and was charged with the loss, allowing four runs, two earned, on five hits walking none and striking out none, while Kynlie Muscarella pitched one inning, and gave up six runs, four earned, on four hits, walking one and fanning one.
Edwardsville is now 13-7, and concludes their home stand on Thursday against Belleville East and Friday against Breese Mater Dei Catholic on Friday, then play at East St. Louis on April 14, with all games starting at 4:30 p.m.
The Redbirds go to 3-9 and are at Father McGivney Catholic on Thursday, host Belleville West on Friday, both games starting at 4:30 p.m., then play in a cluster on Saturday at Triad, meeting the Knights at 10 a.m., then play Carlinville at 12 noon.
