JERSEYVILLE – Two area men face charges in Jersey County for their alleged involvement in separate burglary and theft incidents at the Jerseyville Walmart in recent weeks.

Daniel A. Dalton, 45, of Wood River, was charged with a Class 2 felony count of burglary on March 24, 2026.

On March 24, 2026, Dalton is accused of knowingly entering the Walmart building at 1316 S. State Street in Jerseyville without legal authority and with the intent to commit a theft.

In a separate case, Paul F. Cope, 37, of Godfrey, was charged with one count of retail theft, a Class 3 felony, on March 20, 2026.

Cope allegedly took possession of $1,058.20 worth of various merchandise from the Jerseyville Walmart and passed all points of payment without paying the full retail value of the merchandise on March 8, 2026.

Dalton and Cope were both granted pretrial release from custody and were issued notices to appear at the Jersey County Courthouse on April 14, 2026.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
