“There was a single occupant in the house. The occupant heard a loud pop, and as they were leaving, the back of the house was on fire,” said Holiday Shores Fire Chief Jim O’Brien. “It appears the fire may have started in the rear of the home, possibly near a hot tub.”

Due to the lack of fire hydrants in the area, multiple agencies assisted with tanker support, including Worden, Prairietown, Hamel, and Meadowbrook fire departments. Edwardsville also responded with additional manpower. The Madison County Emergency Management rehab unit was on scene as well.

Alton Memorial Ambulance had a unit on standby.

The home was completely destroyed in the fire. No injuries were reported.
