BELLEVILLE - Belleville Police officers are investigating a homicide after a 20-year-old man was shot and later died Sunday afternoon, March 15, 2026, and two suspects were taken into custody following a vehicle crash and a foot pursuit, police said.

The shooting was reported at about 3:50 p.m. March 15, 2026, when officers from the Belleville Police Department were dispatched to the 5800 block of Belleville Crossing “in response to a subject shot,” according to the department.

The Belleville Police Department said officers found a 20-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound when they arrived at the scene. Officers and emergency medical personnel attempted to render first aid, and the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses identified a suspect vehicle that was located a short time later by a Belleville officer, Belleville Police said. The vehicle fled from officers and later crashed in the 6600 block of Old St. Louis Road.

Belleville Police said two suspects ran on foot from the vehicle. Multiple officers from numerous local agencies set up a perimeter, and two suspects were taken into custody and are being held at the Belleville Police Department.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation,” Belleville Police said, adding that additional information will be released as it becomes available.
