Jemison began his career on March 3, 1993. The department said he “has grown through the ranks, gaining experience, perspective, and a deep understanding of the fire service along the way,” and that he has taken on “increasing responsibility” while “embracing the challenges that come with leading a department and serving our community.”

“Thirty-three years of service is an incredible milestone — and a testament to a career built on hard work, resilience, and pride in the badge,” the fire department statement said.

The department asked the community to join in congratulating Jemison and said, “Thank you, Chief, for 33 years of service to the City of Alton.”
