Emma Glenn of East Alton-Wood River High School.

WOOD RIVER - Emma Glenn, a senior at East Alton-Wood River High School, is being recognized for soccer, citing academic achievement and leadership as key factors in the honor.

Glenn said she believes earning a 4.0 GPA in her last semester of high school “has made a huge impact on this award,” adding that she also considers herself “a good team leader.” Her girls' soccer coach is Diane Cox.

She credited her family for support throughout her time in school and the sport.

“I want to thank my mom, dad, and step dad for always being there and supporting me throughout my whole entire journey through soccer and school,” Glenn said. “They’re always by my side and never let me down.”

Glenn said her high school experience and involvement in soccer have helped shape her personally.

“My high school career and soccer have shaped me into the person I am today because I am guided by so many amazing people through both school and soccer,” she said. “They both help me grow as a person and have helped me gain discipline for myself.”

Looking ahead, Glenn said she might continue playing after high school at SWIC. She said she is interested in earning an associate degree in kinesiology and becoming a physical therapy assistant, with a long-term goal of returning to school to pursue a doctorate and become a certified physical therapist.
