ALTON – It’s official: the Godfrey Timberwolves will have “priority scheduling” at Diamond #8 in Gordon Moore Park for the next five years.

At their Feb. 11, 2026 meeting, Alton City Council members unanimously approved an agreement passed earlier this week by the Committee of the Whole for the organization’s use of Diamond #8 until 2031.

The agreement grants the Godfrey Timberwolves “priority scheduling” at the baseball diamond, but does not guarantee the group will be able to use the diamond on all requested dates. Parks and Recreation Director Lyndsey Younger will coordinate with the Timberwolves to ensure the space is shared fairly with other local groups and teams.

The Timberwolves have agreed to fund the installation and maintenance of a series of improvements at the site, including a new bullpen, batting cage, flag pole, and scoreboard. Head Coach Nick Pichee said at Monday’s committee meeting that these upgrades are part of a push to make the site a more attractive area for area youth to practice and play baseball.

“We recognized that that space was kind of being underutilized out there at Gordon Moore,” Pichee said. “We want to be a part of bringing people back out to the park and revitalizing that.”

Pichee added the Timberwolves are “committed to 160 practices and games out at the field this summer, so it’s going to be a busy time out there.”
